Cíle předmětu
The goal of this reading seminar is to approach the process of writing as the one expressing much more than it is actually written. We will search for various levels of interpretation of the book and consequently, we will search for possible applications in the current sociological and anthropological discourse. The students will acquire skills needed to achieve these goals.
Osnova
  • This reading seminar is open for students interested in allegorical books and willing to undertake path of deciphering and interpretation of symbols and allegories. We will together read selected passages from the book "Lord of the Flies" written by William Golding. The object of this seminar will first be a close and careful reading of the book followed by the discussion in the class. Second, we will we will utilize a hermeneutical method and try to interpret and apply this text. It means that the main question of the seminar will be: What does the ‘said’ say about what is ‘unsaid’?

Výukové metody
Reading the book in English at home, discussion in the class, interpretation and reflection of the written words.
Metody hodnocení
Each student is required to read the selected passage of the book at home for each class, to discuss with the colleagues in the class, to prepare one presentation (10-15 minutes), and to talk in English. Attendance: Each student is expected to attend the classes. Apart from compulsory Jabok events (such as field placement/practice), only 1 absence is allowed.
